Is There a Right or Wrong Way to Worship?
Does style matter?
Can any form and pattern of worship work with our doctrine as Lutherans?
The questions are seemingly endless, really – from whether we ought to chant, bow, genuflect and elevate, to whether these things "get in the way" of reaching the lost, or do they help? Is worship style simply a matter of adiaphora, so that you are free to pick which works best for you . . . for your people . . . or for your community?
If the variety and debate over worship in our Synod has ever challenged your thinking, then the ACELC would like to invite you, in the true spirit of genuine koinonia, to come and participate in a fraternal discussion of these topics at our 3rd National Free Conference on April 16-18, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, where our theme will be: "Christ For Us: The Divine Service."
The guest speakers for this year's Conference include the Rev. Rick Sawyer of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Brandon, Mississippi, who will outline the "Central Questions" regarding the theology and practice of worship in the LCMS today; the Rev. David Langewisch of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Colorado, who will speak on Contemporary Worship; the Rev. Phil Hale of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Lyons, Nebraska, will address the subject of Traditional Worship; and the Rev. Dr. Rick Stuckwisch of Emmaus Lutheran Church, South Bend, Indiana, will will speak on High Church Worship. Finally, the Rev. Brian Wolfmueller of Hope Lutheran Church, Aurora, Colorado, will provide a Concordist summation and conclusion in light of Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.
In addition, there will be time for table talk discussion and a Worship Workshop, with daily living from God’s Gifts through Matins and Vespers. The Rev. Clint Poppe, Chairman of the ACELC, will speak on Koinonia in Lutheranism, and the Rev. Dr. Tim Rossow of Bethany Lutheran Church, Naperville, Illinois, will be our banquet speaker. His theme will be: "My Time With the Presidents."
Oh, and did we mention there will also be opportunity for good food and Lutheran beverages?
At a time when it is easy to focus on our divisions, the ACELC would like to provide a unique opportunity for all of us to gather together in brotherly,  mutual conversation and consolation, as we challenge, listen to, and encourage one another to walk together in the LCMS.
We hope you will consider attending the 3rd National Free Conference of the ACELC, Christ for Us: The Divine Service, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Austin, TX, April 16-18, 2013.
Scholarships are being graciously provided by our host congregation, Trinity Lutheran, to cover conference registration and two nights in a hotel for seven pastors who meet the criteria spelled out on the registration form. Please note that only seven such scholarships are available.
Registration information is available on the ACELC home page – where you will find a link to the online registration form.

You may also access the registration form directly by clicking on this link.
See you in Austin - Deo Volente!
